30 Years Ago Today: Jamie Reid's God Save The Queen

Excerpts_graphic_21st_12_2This month marks the 30th Anniversary of one of rock-and-roll's most iconic images  - Jamie Reid's cover for the Sex Pistols' seminal album, God Save the Queen.

More than just a great fucking image, Jamie Reid's artwork for the God Save The Queen established an entirely new visual language for graphic design.  Reid's  ransom note style, in which he incorporated words and letters cut from newspaper headlines, went on to define the  punk rock aesthetic.

Where the Sex Pistols defined punk rock on stage, Reid defined punk rock in print and on paper.  The two became so interwoven that it's impossible to separate the Pistols music from Reid's images.
