On Sunday, the Washington Post ran a wonderful story about how they had hired a world-renowned violinist to play in the DC metro station. The piece recounts the reactions (and non-reactions) that commuters had as they walked by.
As I read the story on the web, I was struck by how well video was incorporated into the piece. Rather than put the video off into a stand-alone sidebar, the Post embeds and weaves four short video clips throughout the story to illustrate the points made in the text. It brings the story to life in a way that text alone can't do.
While adding video elements in newspaper and magazine websites is certainly not new, the way in which the Post blends the video and the text into one story is something that most newspapers aren't yet doing.
As embedded video becomes the norm rather than the exception, I expect (and hope) that this is a trend that we will be seeing more of in online newspapers and magazines.
